GMAT Syllabus

Table of Contents

The 2024 GMAT Focus Edition syllabus is structured into three main sections, each lasting 45 minutes. This format is part of a streamlined approach that emphasizes skills pertinent to graduate business programs, aligning the exam more closely with business school requirements.

  1. Quantitative Reasoning: This section tests basic arithmetic and algebra skills through 21 problem-solving questions. It assesses your ability to apply mathematical concepts to business scenarios. Notably, this edition of the GMAT has removed geometry and data sufficiency questions from this section, shifting the latter to the Data Insights section.
  2. Verbal Reasoning: Comprising 23 questions, this section evaluates your ability to read and understand written material, reason and evaluate arguments, and correct written material to conform to standard written English. It includes reading comprehension and critical reasoning questions but does not feature sentence correction questions, which were present in the traditional GMAT.
  3. Data Insights: A new section with 20 questions, this part of the exam requires the use of an on-screen calculator. It tests your ability to analyze and interpret data from multiple sources, such as graphs and tables, and includes data sufficiency questions previously found in the Quantitative section. This section reflects the growing importance of data literacy in the business field.

The GMAT Focus Edition is shorter overall compared to the traditional GMAT, totaling 2 hours and 15 minutes. It also introduces new features such as the ability to review and edit answers within a section, choose the order of section attempts, and provides detailed performance insights in the official score report.

These changes make the GMAT Focus Edition a targeted and efficient option for prospective business school students, focusing on the most essential skills needed for success in business studies.
